Our program

Our program is designed to help children grow in their awareness of the world around them, to develop an understanding of God's love for them, and to experience a rich environment that fosters their social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and spiritual development.

We place children in classes based on their age as of September 1. We do make exceptions to this policy if the birth date is close to the cut-off date and the director and teachers feel this is a good fit for your child. Currently, we offer the following classes:

1-year-olds

2-day class on Tuesdays and Thursdays

3-day class on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays

2-year-olds

2-day class on Tuesdays and Thursdays

5-day class Monday through Friday

3-year-olds

3-day class on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays

5-day class Monday through Friday (children enrolling in this class must be potty-trained, per DSS policies)

4-year-olds

5-day class Monday through Friday

5-year-old kindergarten

5-day class Monday through Friday

Our Preschool day operates from 9 a.m. to noon. Kindergarten hours are 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. We offer an extended program for 2- to 5-year-olds. Early morning drop-off is from 8 to 9 a.m. Lunch Bunch runs from noon to 2 p.m. Our school year begins near the end of August and ends in the middle of May. We follow the same holiday and in-service-day schedule as Lexington/Richland School District 5.

Registration for each school year is held in February for current students and church members. The public is invited to register on March 1 each year.

In addition to our curriculum, we offer music once a week and chapel twice a month for our 2- to 5-year-olds. We also offer science and Spanish to our 4- and 5-year-olds once a week. Physical education and art are offered weekly to our 5-year-olds.

We offer a summer program for 2- to 6-year-olds. The program operates during selected weeks, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to noon, with the option of staying for Lunch Bunch from noon to 2 p.m. for 2- to 6-year-olds.

Program FAQs

When does registration open to the public?

We open registration to current students and church members on the first Monday in February each year. The public is invited to register the first Monday in March. We highly encourage tours of the school before registering. Appointments may be set up or you are welcome to drop in between 9 and noon any day of the week.

What is your bad weather policy?

We follow the same inclement weather policies as Lexington/Richland School District 5. We encourage our parents to watch WIS-TV for updates during inclement weather. McGregor Preschool/Kindergarten will always be listed with a delay or closed message. If District 5 is closed for the whole day, we are closed for the whole day. If District 5 calls for a two-hour delay, we will be delayed two hours as well. Kindergarten will start at 10:30 a.m., and Preschool classes will start at 11 a.m. Pick-up times and Lunch Bunch will remain at normal times.

Do you make exceptions to the September 1 age cut-off?

We do make exceptions after discussions with the parents and taking into consideration the child’s developmental needs. Our public schools in South Carolina are required to adhere to the September 1 cut-off date; therefore, parents need to make this decision with extreme care. It may mean the child will need to repeat a class at McGregor before he or she is able to go to kindergarten at a public school.

What are the teacher ratios per class?

Kindergarten - 18:2

4-year-old classes - 18:2

3-year-old classes - 16:2 or 18:2, depending on the room size

2-year-old classes - 8:2 or 12:2, depending on the room size

1-year-old classes - 6:2

When does the school year begin and end?

Classes will begin in late August or early September and end in late May. We tend to start one to two weeks after District 5 and end one to two weeks earlier.

What if I am late for picking up my child?

There is a late policy listed in our Parent Handbook. There is no charge for the first time. However, after the first time there are fees calculated based on the time of arrival.

If I need to drop off early or stay late at the last minute, do I have options?

Yes. We encourage you to call or email about coming in for Early Morning Drop-Off, which begins at 7:30 a.m. For a last-minute late stay, we offer our Lunch Bunch program from noon to 2 p.m. Both programs are available on a regular basis.
